Hosted by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, the Houston Chapters of the Institute of Real Estate Management (“IREM”) and Building Owners and Managers Association (“BOMA”) announce the date for the 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting Harris County Protective Services (HCPS). This year’s event will be held on October 29, 2007 at Kingwood Country Club. The Tournament was developed in 1986 and has since become one of the largest Charity Tournaments in Houston . What makes this program unique is the fact that through a joint effort among these two complementary organizations along with the charity itself, it now attracts nearly 400 golfers and enables us to donate over $80,000 consistently each year since 2001. Very few charity events can boast net proceeds of over $75,000 on an ongoing annual basis.

As the largest single contributor to HCPS over the years, the BOMA / IREM Golf event has raised over $924,000 for this worthy cause. HCPS serves approximately 3,000 children and teens each month. Past donations have enabled the charity to open their new Youth Recreation Center on Chimney Rock, to purchase a van, dental x-ray equipment, computer equipment, educational materials, and to provide CPS case workers with emergency supplies such as diapers, formula, new clothing, new shoes, school supplies, and other needed items which would otherwise be unavailable for these underprivileged children.

Through this event and through media coverage both internally and externally, our Chapter receives a great deal of publicity and recognition. Our host, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, sends marketing pieces throughout the year on behalf of our organizations and the charity. In 2002, BOMA and IREM received the inaugural Laura Bush Award for Outstanding Contributions towards the Betterment of Children.

Over the years, BOMA and IREM have developed a close relationship with several key staff members at HCPS, which have greatly benefited this close-knit Committee. In total, over 2,000 volunteer hours contribute to the event’s success. In the final minutes of the tournament, the results of this Tournament become apparent when we determine the final monetary achievement, and award a huge check to Judge Eckels and the Director of Harris County Protective Services.
